Today’s World MS Day events!

2017 Life with MS

It’s World MS Day!

People across the globe are getting involved by organising all kinds of events.

Here are just a few examples of some of the activities happening around the world today.

Take a look at the events map to find out what’s on near you and add your event!

Uruguay

The Asociación de Esclerosis Múltiple de Uruguay (EMUR) are holding a variety of activities in Montevideo today. Two EMUR speakers will start the day by holding an educational activity about MS with employees at a local company this morning.

Then comes a special meeting for people affected by MS and medical professionals. EMUR will add a dash of colour to the event by handing out orange balloons for everyone to sign, before gathering together to launch them all into the air in Plaza Independencia, the central square. Two buildings will be lit up in the square, including the Palace of the Laws.

Ireland

MS Ireland are gathering people in Dublin this morning for a lobbying and advocacy event at the Irish Government building, Leinster House. The Society also launches a report on MS and quality of life today that focuses on key issues on its advocacy agenda, such as the need to invest in underfunded neurology services.

Latvia

From midday until 2pm at Vidrizu 1A, Rīgas Vidzemes priekšpilsētas, Latvijas Multiplās Sklerozes Asociācija (LMSA) are holding an immersive sensory experience for members of the public in order to raise awareness of the symptoms of MS.

Participants will be able to experience the symptoms of MS by wearing blurred vision glasses to simulate visual disturbances, a bulletproof vest and sandbags on each foot to imitate sensations of fatigue, and thick gloves to simulate issues with dexterity as they try to complete such tasks as writing their name and buttoning a shirt.

Iceland

The MS Society of Iceland is getting everyone involved in World MS Day by laying on a vibrant event of singing, dancing, and fun for all the family. Iceland’s very own Páll Óskar will be performing his music onstage and there’s a circus, bouncy castle, and face painting to keep the kids entertained – not to mention hot dogs and ice cream!

The Society’s Chairman will also give a speech about MS, and staff will hand out new brochures on MS to raise public awareness of the condition.

India

The Mumbai Chapter of the MS Society of India (MSSI) are one of many of the Society’s chapters holding events today.

This evening, they’ll be hosting the official launch of “Unclothed”, the first novel from Probir Sengupta – a writer with MS. The launch begins at 6pm at Title Waves, Bandra, and Probir will read out an excerpt from the novel.

Czech Republic

Moving into the evening, Union Roska is hosting a night of celebrations at the Culture Centre Zahrada to mark World MS Day and one other special occasion: the 25th anniversary of the Roska foundation.

The evening will begin with the presentation of awards to esteemed members and co-workers, followed by a talk about Roska’s activities. Participants will then enjoy a raffle before moving on to the highlight of the evening: a concert featuring rock’n’roll and jazz!
