MS doesn’t stop me applying my skills
Maartin, 61, Netherlands
I was diagnosed with MS in 2007. At that time, I was working for a telecommunications and ICT company, where I had been employed for 39 years. However, in 2010 the company relocated and the commute became too long, so I had to leave.
In 2012, I moved to Nieuw Unicum, a centre in the Netherlands specialising in care for people with progressive MS. Here I work part-time at the computer centre where I convert videos to DVDs and use my skills to help fellow residents with a variety of computer tasks.
I can choose the hours I work and manage efficiently with limited energy. Being able to continue working makes me feel independent.
