World MS Day report from MS Ireland
Dublin
National Office staff were out shaking buckets and spreading the word about MS Ireland on Grafton Street. We were blessed with the sunshine so it spurred everyone on to put on a happy face and ask passers-by to share their One Day Wishes. Our balloons proved particularly popular with kids! We also held a collection at National Office (aka Balloon City) where we got to talk to our neighbours and let them know about all the great work carried out by MS Ireland.
Our North Dublin office held bucket collections in the Pavillions Shopping Centre in Swords and a great day was had by all.
Cork
Our Southern Regional Office organised a one day Living with MS Conference which was a smash hit with all who attended. With such a brilliant line-up of speakers it couldn’t have gone any other way. Dr Brian Sweeney (UCC Hospital), Dr Eric Downer (UCC Researcher) and Prof Michael Hutchinson (St Vincent’s University Hospital) delivered show-stopping presentations on the very latest in MS developments and research. Videos of the sessions will be available shortly.
Limerick
Our Midwest Regional Office held an Open Day at TARA with a BBQ on the deck, coffee and freshly-baked for all who came along. The raffle and book sale were a success with all proceeds going towards providing support and services for people affected with MS and their families in the Midwest.
Galway
Our Western Regional Office hosted an Information Evening with a fantastic line-up of speakers. Dr John Lynch Neurologist (University Hospital Galway) spoke about treatments while Dr Cecilia Andersson presented on the topic of Self Care. Dr Una Fitzgerald (NUI Galway) and her research team were on hand to speak about their current research projects.
Kilkenny
Our South East office organised a bag-pack on the day, spreading the World MS Day message to everyone in Dunnes Stores in Kilkenny.
MS Care Centre
Our MS Care Centre held their annual fun day in Bushy Park Road. Coffee, home-baked cakes and live entertainment meant a great day out for all! Along with the usual car wash there was lots of fun had witht he raffle, art and face-painting. What a brilliant day!
Coffee Mornings
Coffee mornings were the order of the day for many areas around the country and what better way to get people together and have a cuppa and a chat than on World MS Day? In Donegal our North West Regional Office arranged for people to come together in Letterkenny, Stranorlar and Drumkeen while in Leixlip our South West Dublin & Kildare Office marked World MS Day with a coffee morning.
