A Reason to Celebrate in Uruguay
On the 3rd May a draft of law was approved declaring the last Wednesday of every May World MS Day. A delegation of volunteers and people with MS went to El Palacio Legislativo in Montevideo for the meeting, here they are on the steps outside shortly before entering:
They are hoping the law will be officially passed in time for this year’s World MS Day, when they will be holding an event for their friends, members, government and medical officials, and the press.
Another delegation from EMUR met with a member of the Chamber of Representatives who is involved in a recently passed Law concerning the rights of people with disabilities, which will impact upon people with MS living in Uruguay. She was very impressed with the hard work and dedication shown by the members and volunteers of EMUR and they discussed many concerns for people with MS living in Uruguay, such as transportation, treatments and medication. They also gave her the MSIF literature regarding employment and MS (a copy of this document in various languages can be found on “tools and resources“ above).
They will keep us up to date with progress of the new law, so keep an eye out for updates soon!
